Grand Opening of Riverfront Park

Grand Opening of Riverfront Park
Friday, July 6, 2012

I'm very pleased to be here this afternoon for the Grand Opening of Riverfront Park in the lovely town of Truro and bring greetings from the province of Nova Scotia, on behalf of Percy Paris, the Minister of Economic and Rural Development and Tourism.

Today, we officially open Truro's newest park. On behalf of the province, I congratulate and thank Brent MacDonald and the team at the Downtown Truro Partnership for all of their hard work, dedication and planning that have gone into making today's grand opening a reality.

Riverfront Park serves as a wonderful, beautiful entry to downtown Truro from Bible Hill, welcoming residents of our area and visitors alike.

The province is proud to have invested in this project, and partnered with the Downtown Truro Partnership, the Town of Truro and the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency in the creation of this new park.

By making investments in our communities, such as this one which has improved and revitalized public space here in Truro, it will bring people – both residents and visitors - into the downtown areas of our communities.

This will help create and maintain economic development and make our town and businesses more competitive.

It will also help attract more people from elsewhere to visit downtown Truro, as well as our broader community, and encourage them to come back again and spread the word about our great community to people in other parts of Nova Scotia and beyond.
